With a background in management and project coordination across different industries, returning to BCIT as a mature student felt like a natural next step toward building real technical skills in full stack web development. That blend of hands-on project experience and software development is what drives my approach today. Certified in both Waterfall and Agile project management, bridging the gap between development teams and business goals comes naturally.
Keen to gain experience before graduation, I signed up as a volunteer on the Special Projects team with PMI's Canadian West Coast Chapter.
To cap off my Agile studies, I earned the PMI ACP, combining my project management background with hands-on Agile experience.
With two Scrum Master certifications complete, I shifted focus to the product side to round out my Agile toolkit.
Building on my PSM foundation, I pursued the Scrum Alliance certification to broaden my understanding of Scrum frameworks.
Never one to rest, I spent my summer learning Agile best practices and earned my first Scrum certification.
Inspired by the client portal I built at Stepabroad, I returned to BCIT as a full-time student to pursue a career in software development and deepen my technical skills.
After 4 years of building a life in Vancouver, I officially became a dual citizen of both Canada and the UK. With my immigration journey behind me, I felt it was time for a new challenge.
After graduating with distinction in project management, I formalized my training by sitting and passing the PMI CAPM exam.
As projects at Stepabroad grew in scope, I pursued part-time evening studies at BCIT to formalize my project management skills and gain Canadian credentials.
With borders reopening, I returned to the travel industry for the summer of 2022. It was here I got my first real exposure to agile methodology, responding to shifting immigration rules daily.
My time as an essential retail worker during the pandemic opened a path to permanent residency, and in summer 2021, I was approved to make Canada my permanent home.
When Covid-19 hit, I pivoted into retail management. We shifted to online orders and personal shopping sessions for expecting parents, growing sales 20% despite store closures.
Originally from the UK, but having spent 5 years in Australia and New Zealand, I arrived in Canada planning to stay one summer.
